Responsible Operations

PARCO believes that ethical, socially responsible operations and environmental stewardship are fundamental to its long-term growth. Our performance in these facets mutual with our technical and operating strengths influences our financial results and overall success. Each employee and contractor plays an imperative role in achieving our aspirations while ensuring responsible operations and finding ways to achieve incessant improvement.

Handling hydrocarbons is our business and it comes with its share of hazards. PARCO proactively identifies, minimizes and mitigates situations that have the potential to cause harm to the health and safety of its employees, contractors, the public and the environment. The expenditures on social and environmental projects by PARCO speak for themselves.

Within PARCO, safety of our employees is a paramount. The protection of health is guaranteed by an integrated management system, which conforms to international OHSAS regulation 18001.

Safety Performance

Pak-Arab Refinery continues to demonstrate its very strong commitment to all aspects of Health, Safety and Environment linked to its business operations. Safety performance of PARCO undergoes further improvement with its Refining Division crossing 6 million man-hours without Lost Time Accident (LTA) and the Pipeline Division approaching 1 million man-hours without LTA.

Sustained effort has been the driving force behind the milestones. The achievement is further strengthened by the contractors at MCR completing 9 million man-hours without LTA. The refinery has an LTIR of 0.41 since its commissioning which is an outstanding key performance indicator. Backing the commitment were safety trainings, awareness programs and on-site operational safety controls and intensive auditing.

  • About 36 Km of PARCO’s pipelines traverse Kirthar National Park. Keeping in mind the neighboring wildlife preservation, PARCO contributed significantly to the Sindh Wild Life Department for preservation of Wildlife and upkeep of Kirthar National Park and Mahal Kohistan Wildlife Sanctuary.
  • PARCO has also made generous contributions to Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for different Research & Development Projects, Upgrading of Laboratory for NEQS analysis and General Environmental Awareness Projects through Media.
  • An environmental Project of rerouting PARCO pipelines, KMK and White Oil Pipeline was undertaken around the lake at a heavy cost. Both the lines were rerouted around Manchar Lake in order to keep the lake intact.

 

Safety Regulations for PARCO Staff
  • PARCO trains its staff for increased awareness regarding the biological resources.
  • PARCO enforces a strict no-hunting, no-trapping and no-harassment policy.
  • Damage to natural vegetation is minimized
  • Cutting of trees is strictly restricted.
  • Night time construction and traffic is not allowed inside Kirthar National Park (KNP) and Mahal Kohistan Wildlife Sanctuary (MKWS).
  • Number of camps minimized inside KNP and MKWS.
  • No off-track driving.
